i was just wondering if anyone can help me out with some information about the front brake calipers on a 1965 humber sceptre Mk 1 1600cc the car is going through a whole restorations as it has been sitting in a garage for 31 years and it is nearly done apart from the front brakes won't release with these calipers! i have purchased the reconditioned calipers and sent my old ones away, but the calipers i was sent were for a hillman superminx i rung the company and they checked the chassis number and said that these would be fine its exactly the same part, so i take them to my mechanic he fits them and carries on restoring the rest of the car including new brake master cylinder, clutch master cylinder, servo the whole lot, but the brake calipers wont release, he says that they are the wrong ones as like normal when you press the pedal the brake fluid pushes down into the caliper to squeeze the pistons to stop the wheel but when you take your foot off of the pedal the fluid doesn't come back up the hose the way it went down like a sceptres should (apparently) due to a shut off valve that prevents it so the brakes stay on, he says this caliper is designed to have a return hose that takes the fluid back to the cylinder which a sceptres cylinder does not have room or connections for that. if anyone has any information that could help please let me know as i honestly dont have a clue if its the calipers like the mechanic thinks or god know what else, so if you read my essay and by so miracle understood what i was going on about please HELP!!!
many thanks!
