Well january is over and so is the rebuild of my scrapyard bought engine siezed after standing for 20 years, Amazingly when striped down the engine was in remarkable condition all bores and journals where std I had to replace two valves (Rusted due to being held open) set of valve springs (one broke) and a set of thrusts (std) Everything was coated in a thick layer of sludge so a good wash sorted that out. The carb was siezed so stripped down and cleaned up new gasket set
Job done Oh yes a new diaphragm found inthe spares in tghe boot,When I stripped the valve gear (seized) I had to drill out theoil feeds solid muck, all back to gether and ready to go for a start on the bench tomorrow (tuesday) ran the battery flat getting the oil pressure up 40 psi on crank plugs out! will let you know more soon mick H

She runs after 20 years in an old garage I must give credit to the previous owner the condition was very good

Front headlight appetures welded also rear bottom of frot n/s wing welded all front suspention removed for clean and paint just need a few rubbers all ok will start to look for dome sherwood green paint

Welcome to march 2013 BBbbrrr!!!!!! so cold in the workshop at present that work has slowed down, Derusting and brush painting and over hauling the wiper motor and heater motor all now working fine, engine core plugs removed as a precaution...... Just as well see photo, I got 2 jam jars of crud out, then jet washed the block for about 15 mins, I was amazed to see an old core plug remains come out also some cast flashings and a nut? I can only think it got dropped in through the thermostat housing (no stat) I would think the motor was running hot with all that crud in the block! No wonder the heater radiator is blocked solid, Oh! I forgot to say that yes I did do the core plug behind the flywheel, I am looking for a supplier of "Velor" seat material any one know of any one good I have done the normal searches on the internet but so far not found what i would like , More news later when I can get some proper painting done I think sherwood green mettalic body with brown vinyl roof,Dark brown carpets and lighter brown/beige seats and trim, The trim can be changed with Vinyl kote spray as seen on car sos they changed a stag brown interior to black and it looked the dogs gonads........

Getting down to the big bills now paint £300 Trim £900 Roof £160 I would like a hrw also an o/d box butt sadly the pension will only go so far so things are slowing down a bit I will get there but not this year. It is nice to see all the parts looking smart and i will paint the engine bay this summer (if we get one) then i can make some room by refitting the engine and front suspention. Just gon through the loom and found a few naughty bits after taking the loom apart and soldering all the bad bits wipping it up in nice new tape it looks good more later. Thanks for the interest .

Well I finally managed to prove beyond any shadow of doubt that a finger will not stop an angle grinder disc I must of had a lapse of concentration when cleaning up the underside for welding . I now have a slice down the back of my left index finger all the way to the bone 2inches long so am i a @$**$#@ old $#@ yes i guess so... moral? Be carefull guys and gals accidents happen when you least expect them...........worked 50 years in motors and this is the first angle grinder fight i have lost.......

au contraire hoppo, you are still alive to tell the tale, so I think you probably won....nasty things grinders, especially if they snatch when you are least expecting it. Glad you are ok.

I have my engine apart at the moment - it seized up from old fuel gumming up the carb butterflies and glueing the intake valves shut, leading unfortunately to a bent pushrod. Have seen a few neglected 1725's over the years but never seen that situation, it was like somebody had tipped superglue in the head - It was some of the Bayford Thrust 4*, so suspect maybe it didn't have the life of the best refined fuels. I also have the rusted rear core plug, so the whole engine is out of the car, and I might do a bit of tidying here and there while I am at it....

My engine took several weeks of soaking and then had to resort to a large birmingham screwdriver and lump of timber to remove the pistons, Hope yours is in better fettle, As the weather has improved I am able to start some paint..... after much deliberation i ended up with brush painting and coach enamel (synthetic) This was in part the cost of sspray equipment Hood ect and the need for a good gun.any way for a third of the price and a bit more rubbing down between two undercaots and two top coats.........I am waiting for the paijnt to dry so I can do the second top coat......its not perfect but it does take a bit of getting used to thne paint and brushes....the good thing is you can paint one bit at a time.

Picking up a heated rear window on tuesday any one know what the consumption is ? in watts or amps.....dont do modern stuff !!! thanks guys

Hi thanks for the comment. the colour is mid brunswick green supplied by craftmaster paints in cambridge....very helpfull I chose brushing because of all the problems with sealing the body that had allready been brush painted. also breathing fumes the need for a larger air tank and a good gun ect ect ,,, It was also about 1 third the price as th e car will have little value at present I thought this was the way to go it is well on the way now engine in and lots of wiring completed , motor cranks over even have panel lights and wipers.....photo to follow
