Hello again,

Its as easy as pie, simply lift the carpet out of the boot and there is the tank. From under the car you will need to find the petrol outlet and drain the tank. If its still there the card rear panel will need to be removed and disconect the petrol filler tube. Now the bit that may be trouble first remove the tank sender connections and then undo the tank securing bolts, without doubt one or more will be rusted in so maybe start a week before you want to remove the tank and spray or soak them with penetrant spray or oil. Once the retaining bolts are removed the tank simply lifts out of the boot. Good Luck Let me know how it goes.

Regards Aubrey

Well all, if you are still reading this, all ailments of popping, stalling etc went away, she now starts on the first turn of the key, and runs like a dream. I am just back (last week) for my weekend of Humberingto Le Mans. Just shy of 900 miles from friday night to Tuesday Lunchtime, wokingham to Le Mans and back and not one problem. Started everytime, never overheated, never stalled nothing. No oil used, no water and an overall of 34mpg.
the only issue being a tyre blow out at 85mph on the french autoroute, woo hoo that was fun..........not.
But thanks for all advise, this forum is invaluable for keeping this old girls going.

ok, good stuff, but if the symptoms do come back it is probably muck in the fuel. Glad you had a good LeMans.

The tyre blow out is worrying though - what happened, was it an old tyre, what was the brand, etc?

I think it may have been the old spare, i did swap one a while ago, had probably sat in teh boot for many years and this was the first time it had been really used for a long period. Worth noting, if you do put your spare on make sure its not too old!!

Got a bit sideways but got to the hard shoulder and no damage to anything or anyone so all good in the end.

Hi
i know your post is a bit old now but i have only just read it,and thought i'd put my own word in.......My girlfriends mini suffered the same problem and that was very fine sediment in the tank,i noticed the carb getting blocked up so i put a filter in the line to stop the dirt. I cleaned the carb out repeatedly every time she broke down, and the problem only went away when i pressure washed the tank out and rinsed it with thinners and then dried it out with a hot air gun.
Hope yours is behaving its self.
She now drives a mint condition Series 3 Minx ,much better !

Hi.
Had a Sceptre 20 years ago that did the same.
Turned to be a small hole in one of the hoses that squirted a thin spray of water on to the electrics, stopped running so stopped spraying so couldn't see fault, after a short while electrics dried off and she would run again, took ages to find out what was wrong.
