I have a 1968 Series V that does not have the original engine (unless it has been given a new number by a re-conditioning firm) and currently needs a new water pump.
I bought a Quinton Hazell pump part no. QCP570, supposedly for the following:- Sunbeam Alpine 1969-76, Sunbeam Rapier, H120 1967-76, Sunbeam Vogue 1970 on, Singer Vogue/Gazelle 1966-70, Humber Sceptre 1967-76 and Hillman Hunter 1966-79.
As I believed that all the 1725 engines would be the same (as far as the cooling system was concerned) I assumed it would fit my car but it is quite different and indeed is different from that shown in the workshop manual, which appears to match my car.
Were there actually different water pumps fitted to some 1725 engines or have I in fact been sold a completely rogue unit?
Does anyone know the answer to this or alternatively can anyone track the QH part no. to identify the unit I have?

Hi Ken is correct the 1725 engines from 1967 "arrow" range cars have differents features as follows: canted 10 degrees, with shock absorber engine mounts, diffrent water pump, the new one is sharper and with the typical upper blade and holset fan attachment can be present , different thermostat housing too, you can modified to use on alpines, rapiers and sceptres simply change the engine mount assemblys to the old ones but you have to modified the inlet and exhaust manifold, due the canted of ten degrees on the engine, of course the rocket covers usually are not polished aluminum except on Holbay specially tuned engines.

I was aware that the later engines were canted over but hadn't expected so many other minor changes.
I have replaced my pump with the correct unit now.

Hello, i have a 1970 rootes motor that is brand new never used, what will this fit, are they all the same after 1970, will this fit any early models, thanks so much in advance, tim

it will fit all the models that used the 1725-1500-1600 versions of this engine providing they have the same cylinder head material (cast or alloy). the onyl real differences are on the front of the engine namely cooling system and front timing cover back plates (older one has engine mounts on) everything is interchangable though...

the different cc's were obtained by using a different crank so the rest is pretty much the same although some do have 3 bearing cranks and some 5 I dont believe there is any difference externally

as a follow up to this i have since read somewhere that the 3 bearing crank models have the dipstick going into a tube in the sump whereas the 5 bearing ones have it going into the block itself... hope this is helpful !
