Did it come with the wrong number of boxes? (early Mk3 Sceptres had a box under the floor at the front, a second one about half way back (all as part of one section) , and then a rear pipe which goes over the back axle without a box on it at all.
Later Sceptres are common with Hunter, and have a long front section pipe with just one box at its rear end, then a rear section which kicks over the axle and has a small rear silencer built in just before it exits the valance.
check this out (later car):

Just thinking Hoppo, you've got an early car on a G plate - so I bet you've been sent a later part with the single box, when you were expecting two boxes??
You could strip whatever is left off the car and fit all later parts, no trouble to do that I think presuming the hangers are in the same place. Obviously you'll have to get a new back section made up as well to do that, which is a costly pain in the neck...

006 exhaust with bend.jpg
Thanks for the info, after much hard research it now appears when i bought my front pipe it was for the post 72 model. so when i ordered my exhaust they asked me what year the car was 1969 innocent answer? the rest of theconversation about how i bought an engine and bit from all sorts of places was a waste of time they made a 1969 twin box for that model, the fly in the ointment was the bargain front pipe with the later bend at the end as you say the earlier ones where straight, so now I will cut off the end and reweld it in the correct place.......eventually.

Oh well, at least you know what's going on now.
Oh well, a bit of cut and shut and you'll have this beaten!
Exhausts would be lovely if you were fitting them at waist height..
