Hi folks,
Just new on the forum to find things out about the father in laws Humber Sceptre that I just took up the road today to get back on the road for him as it's sat in his garage for a couple of years.

A few things I will probably need advice on over the coming months I will presume now.
He has done a few things to it over the time, but it's effectively not been started since he parked it and proceeded to change the carb for a webber unit.
I stuck the battery in to it but it seems quite slow to turn over so think I will get the starter motor off and give it a clean out before trying it again.
Also when I put the steering colum back together to sort out the indicators they are going twice as fast as they should normally?

Has any one got pics of there dashboard around the steering column and centre dash as the writing is mostly rubbed of everything.

Well got it going this morning after a good bit of cleaning. Was really surprised that it was actually no spark which was the problem.
Clean and tinker of the points and tighten of the rotor arm and it fired up quite quickly.

After it was running for ten mins it popped a core plug and started spray out water. So just ordered the manifold gaskets so I can remove them to get down to the core plug.

Check the cooling system carefully, these engines, and radiator, clog up easily if left standing and cause overheating and core plug issues, as you've seen.

I gave it a good flush out when I got the core plug out as you were right it was pretty clogged up in the block.

I used a Halfords rad flush kit, and loads of extra rust lumps came out. Might be worth a try

Hi, Please be awear the core plugs do corrode from the inside so can look good but in fact are as thin as a politicians promise, and of course the one inside the bell housing, see my photos in my rebuild thread , It is amazing how much muck get in side. good luck and have you any photos?
