I owned Sceptre Mk2 re no FAL 8!4 C from new, drove some 36,000 miles in her. Does anyone know if she still exists? Colour was red with black interior. I was very fond of the car, our parting was forced and reluctant.

Not showing up on a DVLA search, not normally good news :(

To be honest I haven't seen a 'C' reg MK2 ever. There can't be many with that on it,
and for that reason, it is ringing bells. As I went to University in FALmouth, Cornwall, so that also rang a bell.

Also I haven't seen a 'C' reg MK2 for sale in the last 6 years on Ebay or ClassicCar.

If I find anything I'll contact you.

Thanks for your input. FAL 814 C was red with black interior. I lived at Verwood, Dorset, and my business was at Chandlers Ford, Hants, near Southampton. I parted with the car in 1966 when the business went tits up.
I had covered some 36,000 miles.

Two major faults in that time. Piston change under guarantee, and the synchro went on 3rd gear after some 20,000. My fault, I think, riding the gear stick. But I loved the car whilst I had her.

Very worrying that the piston went, and 3rd gear after so little mileage. You must have really thrashed it?

These are the only Red / Black mK2 Sceptre in my files over the last 5 years that have been for sale. Both have been fairly recent.
One is in Australia. Hopefully they'll give you back some memories, and if you like I could even add your old number plate to one in Photoshop.

As Paul said, if he's checked with the DVLA and there's nothing. It's likely to have gone forever.
I think the plate looked familiar, as I'm often looking at private plates, and perhaps the FAL stood out for me.
It wouldn't have been your exact plate, as that is supposed to be buried with the car.

Thanks again for your comments. Re the pistons. At somewhere around 5000 miles she was using a lot of oil. Investigation by the local Rootes dealer came up with the fact that the factory had fitted wrong pistons! The engine was rebuilt with new pistons under guarantee, and was then fine, using hardly any oil between changes. No, I didn't thrash her, she was driven all over the country, mostly on long trips, and the judicious use of the overdrive on third and top kept the revs down. My riding the gear stick in third did for the synchro.
I am not surprised that she has not survived, after all it is some 49 years since we parted and survival would have been against the odds.
As a matter of interest, I drove a variety of cars from then until 1974, when I bought a Jaguar 240, at some 40,000. From then until my retirement and move to Spain in 2000 I owned nothing but Jaguars and Daimlers, ending with "Dottie", my beloved Daimler Double Six V12, that I owned for seven years. Now I am almost 80, and my daily driver is a Volvo V70, which suits me well at my age.
Regards,
Jeremy

According to the UK DVLA I calculated that the total number of MK2 Humber Sceptres left in the UK are
87 Licensed and 44 SORN = 131 TOTAL
of which there are only 3 that are a C reg.
