Thanks Tony for your reply I checked out the car you mentioned on ebay looks to one that was bought in a auction earlier this year for 3700 pounds an he asking 6950 not a hope,it also looks like he has messed around with the engine. I wait for a better one thanks again.

That was a very low mileage and very genuine Sceptre which first appeared for sale a few years back on the bay wearing some ludicrously wide alloys; the previous owner bought it and used it for classic rallying (you'll find some pics of it wearing Minilites and CIBIEs if you google long enough) , so I can only imagine it must have taken a fair bit of abuse. The rallying could also explain why the over-riders are now missing.

The engine has indeed been messed with. It wears a Holbay rocker cover, and the twin 40 DCOE's, but as the block has matching numbers to the chassis, it is not a genuine Holbay as Sceptres never had them of course. If it were a proper Holbay I am sure it would have been highlighted in the description and would have already sold on that basis alone, as people are paying silly money for those engines (presumably the well healed after upating their Sunbeam Alpines.
As it is I reckon it is probably standard head with maybe a different cam. The price is indeed silly, for a time the dealer had it up at £8495. I made a note that it actually went through auction for £6000 so he is struggling to make his money back. (There was a Wardance Red one with 21900 miles which went for £7700 about the same time at ACA, but that one had not been messed with and would have been a much easier sale).

Actually, that car went through a auction in 2014 as well, so a bit unloved in the end...

The Aquarius blue car on Car and Classic (TYK631M) could be worth looking at if you are nearby (its in Gloucestershire) - this was snapped up for £1500 early in the year when it emerged from a long long hibernation, but seems the vendor has decided to shift it on as it does need some work- sounds like the lower wings need repairing and then a fresh coat of paint to get rid of the patina if required,) but the interior/ vinyl roof looks as good as they get, and so I doubt the body is much more than cosmetic given its 21K miles. Most of the decay probably happened in storage rather than the ravages of winter salt. Pity it is a little overpriced now at £2500...oh, and its an Auto if that's not your thing. If I had space I'd be checking it out though.

any updates? I saw a red one go in auction recently. It was missing the arch and sill chrome strips, seems the restorers have a habit of leaving them off for some reason, probably easier.
