decided now i had Myn holding oil and water ok to go for a decent jaunt this weekend to see family and friends down south...

loaded up a fewe spares and spare oil/water and hit the mtorway and headed 240 miles to Minnis bay to start my adventures...

car went great till about 20 miles outside Margate, temp gauge creeping up to nigh on 100 degrees irrespective of heater etc.. So in margate decide to do a few checks, changed thermostat for new one got locally, refilled with new fresh coolant (old stuff was orange treacle) and went for test drive, same result gauge crept back up and coolant again was orange crud on return. so flush a gallon of water through system remove thermostat and try again, car warms up fine still gets hot now leaks from thermostat housing... again after a mile or so water is thick orange crud...

decide now that the rad and block need a good thorough flush but have no facilities for doing it where I am in margate so decide to continue journey down to fathers in eastbourne, car runs hottish most of the way still leaking coolant (kept it topped up) nearer to eastbourne I get the cooler it gets so figure it has to be sediment related (so much coolant going in new its changing the water eventually) so thats first job when i get home....

get to eastbourne decide to go to cemetry to pay respects to a family member, on reversing out of a path at the cemetry hit a stone buried in some long grass gashing a huge hole in the sidewall of my rear tyre, try in vain to get out of cemetry and to dads but its flat before i know it and im stranded as there is no spare. anyone got a spare wheel carrier as mine is missing..???

so here I sit stranded in eastbourne typing this late at night awaiting the scrapyards opening tomorrow so I can go get another peugeot 405 wheelrim and a pair fo new tyres (old good rear can be spare) whilst my poor car sits outside leaking coolant and sitting on extremely odd wheels at teh back having a 13" 185/80 something on one side and a 14" 185/70 on the other side (yes i know mixed is illegal but where I went flat had I left her she wouldnt be there now or would be in bits ro smashed up its a horrid neighbourhood)

oh the joys of humbering....

on a plus side apart from the heat issue she has been faultless and the mileage so far on this trip is about 400 with another 200 tomorrow getting home....
