I have a sceptre 2

Can anybody give me guidelines as to the oil pressure I should expect.

My engine is not burning any oil, nor using a significant amount.

The cold oil presssure is circa 40 - 45.
The hot under load pressure is 30 - 35
The hot idling pressure is 15 to 20

The hot pressure is lower than I expected? Am I right, and if so what are the likely causes???

I'll check out my manual and let you know, the pressures you've listed sound about right though from what I can remember.

those pressures are the same as Myns pretty much and thats on a motor supposedly rebuilt in the last couple of years..
mine occasionally has really low pressure but thats normally meaning its time to clean out the oil pressure relief valve which I have had to do a couple of times
(how long does it take to get silicon out of the engine -why do people always use a spatula to put it on)

but apart frmo that I would be happy with those pressures...

always using a decent 20/50 mineral classic oil helps as well..

had a pressure relief valve stick once.. was weird seeing 80psi at tickover

Hi,I've looked in the small manual I have and it says the pressure should be 40/45lb per square inch when hot, although this is on a new engine, yours sounds about right considering the fact your engine is worn slightly. Pressure is obviously higher when you first start the engine as the oil is thicker until the engine warms up. The lower reading you get when idling is because the pump speed is related to the engine speed. It is important to change your oil at the recommended intervals as this will help your engine live longer! Also many people do not realise the oil acts as a coolant as well as the water in the cooling system. Hope my answer and the others given help. If I find anymore info I will let you know.

I think a rebuild in the next couple of years is in order, but at least it gives me some time.

Does anyone know where you can get gaskets for gear boxes from? Mine is leaking very slightly.

is it leaking from the OD unit???
theres a lot of pressure inside one of these (up to 1000psi of oil believe it or not)
if its not bad I wouldn't risk disturbing a working unit and simply keep on top of the oil level, dont forget theres an imspection window in the tunnel for topping it up to save scraping around underneath

Its the large panel on the base which its leaking round. Not substantially but more than the occasional trip....
