Can anyone help me, I have just purchased a 1965 series 1 humber sceptre and with it came a completely rebuilt engine and gearbox, the problem is that the owner had died and so I have no idea what actual engine ive got, can anyone help me identify the engine. stamped on the block i believe is the mark B 3205303 and cast on the block ID HRO R1 1980898A 28-8-65. on the head Ican see 3640 and 35.0. does any of these codes mean anything to anyone or have I misread them. any info would be smashing as I need to pucchase gaskets to assemble the engine, it also came with a pair of twin 40 webers, would they be for my engine. yours desperatly paul. :?:

I hope this is helpful
The number B 3205303 is propably the chassis number (you can check this with the chassis plate). The usual place for this is stamped on the cylinder block immediately infront of the oil filter base. Following this is a letter, H or L. H denotes high compression engine (usual) and L low compression (usually for export).
The engine size is 1592cc and fitted originally with either a Zenith or Solex carburettor. My 1963 Mk1 has a twin webber fitted!!

Hi
You would be much better off selling the twin 40's on ebay ,they fetch very good money now,and fitting twin strombergs if you can find them or a single downdraught webber 28/36,dcoes are great when setup but forever need tinkering with.I have be through lots of different engine and carb combinations in my mk1 sceptre through the years at one point i had a Sunbeam Holbay engine in it and i hated the twin 40's !! .I now run a Cavailer GSI engine with EFI !!
Good luck with yours
