Dead Dynamo and radio. Replacement or repair seeked

Today we found our dynamo to be as useful as a fart in a bag so its time for me to say bye bye to my Money again. And to add to the annoyance of the Dynamo the shiny Radiomobile radio which was a bit more up to date and had an american style look to it turned out to be a dud too, I dont know if any of you guys could repair it rather than replace it and if you could it would be a big help.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Does anyone have the part code for the Dynamo? I found a company on Ebay that will sell me a new one for half the price of a reconditioned unit if it will fit the Sceptre. Its a Lucas C40

Hi
I don't want to knock you mechanicing skills but, Are you sure its the dynamo ?
Run the engine up ,disconect the 2 wires from the dynamo first.and briefly short out the 2 posts on the dynamo with a small spanner, you should get a medium sized spark,if you don't, check the brushes,to see if they are free in there holders and have not worn down.Dynamos rarely go wrong.
It could well be the voltage regulator points, disconnect the battery and clean them with some fine emery, don't adjust the settings though.there may be 2 or 3 sets of points depending on what regulator your car has.
hope you get it fixed with out spending anything

The brushes have been changed and I think my uncle cleaned over points, we havent tried shorting the points though.

£44 total for a New old stock reconditioned

, Ive got to go post the cheque today. Radios just going to have to wait unless someone can email me instructions on how to fix it. On the bright side welding could be done within the next few months, hopefully not to many more problems will spring up.

hey sega, obviously you've checked the actual live feed to the radi o is ok?
maybe pop the top off see if any of the solder joints on the board look a bit dull ?
if its already dead it wouldnt hurt to runa soldering iron across the joints just to make sure they seated ok
