hey ho fellas an girlies,

been a while since I posted on here, Myn has been giving great service day in day out even in the ice and snow but the starting has been getting slowly worse and worse. I tried the basics, new points, condensor, rebuilt the carb and gaveit a clean but its still not the best.. so have decided to go a bit modern.. first on the list is electronic ignition (or to be more precise transistorised ignition).. A quick visit to the maplins website saw me equipped with the components and circuit board needed to build the ignition circuit....

soldered it up with the help of some electrically minded friends and mounted it in one of those little boxes that car fuses come in.

added a rocker switch that allows me to cut the power to it and imobilise the car as well. It is mounted temporarily under the wing just while I check it is capable of running the car. The wiring was a doddle, 12v+ and a 12v-, then the other two wires go between the points and the coil. ONLY modification was you have to remove the condensor as the kit has its own one on the ciruit, I have my old bits in the ashtray incase the kit fails when im on the road somewhere... the Spark is now absolutely HUGE and I will see in the morning how much better the car runs..

watch this space for updates..

Does your cheap conversion work well or did you encounter any problems with it down the line?

worked fine right up till I had to sell the car, just baout to build a new one for the "new" car, make sure you get a good waterproof box for it though and that the heatsink is mounted on the OUTSIDE of it, it also let me add a kill switch. better starting, and a slight improvement in economy, but best of all was the spark was like a welders torch afterwards compared to the small spark I had before
