Thought this might be of help to some of you guys who use your cars all year round .
The heater in my Mk1 has always been poor so i finaly have got round to improving it . I have fitted a heater motor and fan from a Mk3 Golf ,(yes, there is a use for these miserable cars ,my wife had one for a short time !) .I cut off most of the golf plastic casing leaving the flat bottom of the casing and bolted it in to the original smiths blower motor casing .I did have to alter the steel bracket that holds it a little ,if you have a welder it would take half an hour to modifiy the bracket.
It was a easy fit but you should also upgrade the wiring to the switch as the new fan draws 9 amps.

I have also replaced the old heater valve with a 1/2" stainless steel ball valve ,it flows a lot more water .This took a bit more effort as the valve also opperates part of the heater mechanism .The good thing is you don't notice the motor mod and you would really have to search to see the water pipe from the ball valve comes out from the rubber cover in a slightly different place.

As a result i have a toasty heater in winter now :D ,Hope this give someone some help.
