Rootes Alpine - Carburettor Upgrade.

Just wondering if anyone has experience with upgrading the carburettor on their Rootes Alpine? I'm looking to improve the performance of my engine, and I've heard good things about fitting a Weber or similar. Any advice on which carburettor to choose, what modifications are required, and any potential pitfalls to avoid would be greatly appreciated!
