hello....

I have a Srs V Alpine that when restored was fitted with an engine (1725 Ali head) from a Sceptre. I have noticed that the engine is fitted with a Ducellier distributor (instead of a Lucas 25D as Alpines were).

Is this correct for a Sceptre? If so is it better/worse than the Lucas? I am setting my ignition at 015 points gap and timing 6-10 BTDC but i realise these are Alpine settings for the Lucas Dizzy...is the same for a Sceptre?

I also have noisey tappetts (set at the figures for an Alpine, 012 & 014 hot) is this the same for a Scpetre Engine?

Alloy head 1725's are basically the same internally for all the models they were used in. There are external differences (such as different carbs) and there were production changes during the life of the motor. My understanding is that the Ducellier distributor was used in the 1970s (from about 1978 to 1978) in the Hunter/Arrow cars including the Sceptre, but I have no direct experience with it as they were not sold over here in Aus. I can't think of a reason why the timing should be any different to that of a 1725 Alpine with 25D distributor - ignition timing is determined by the internal specification of the motor such as cam timing, valve size, compression ratio rather than what type of dissy is fitted.
