Re: Overdrive Gearbox
Hi there Dave.......don't know how desperate you are, but if you are interested, I'm planning on doing an engine transplant on my Mk1 '63 Sceptre through the winter & the engine & o'drive equipped gearbox will be up for grabs. It's a 1592cc with alloy head, twin Zeniths, will have a brand new alternator conversion with it too, the gearbox has o'drive on 3rd & 4th. It all runs sweet with no probs....car is currently at paintshop, I'm hoping to have the car finished for an event mid-Nov, but if it isn't finished the engine & box won't do anymore mileage until it's pulled out. I'm based in central Lincoln & I won't be wanting silly money for it. Drop me a mail ?? Cheers Dave

Hi Scoot, I am in no hurry mate, as my current box without O/D is fine for now, will be very interested, preferably in just the box and prop shaft as my car runs the 1725 motor, when you are ready give me a mail and we will see what we can do, many thanks and best regards Dave Bullen.

Re: Overdrive Gearbox
just for the benefit of anyone else reading this post:
The hunter OD box or any of the arrow range (hunter shaped vogue-sumbeams etc) have a different box and bellhousing so cant be used without bulkhead/gearbox tunnel modification
I found out the hard way
the bellhousing is about 3 inches longer and the whole box is twisted over to the side

I fix things!!

While factually correct, all you have to do in the scenario where you have an arrow's box is to change swap the bellhousing and input shaft from the old box to the arrows one.rootesmadnick wrote:just for the benefit of anyone else reading this post:

Re: Overdrive Gearbox
thats interesting to know, do you know if the standard non OD input shaft is compatible across the range?? as I know the spines are different on teh clutch side as the hunter/arrow has a fine spline wheras the early stuff has a coarse spline

Re: Overdrive Gearbox
The difference between the arrow's input shaft and the earlier cars such as the super minx etc is length. the arrow's bellhousing is longer and at a slight angle. I went through all of this when trying to fit a hunter box to my Commer PB and ended up changing the input shaft and bellhousing over. I am not sure about the splines, but if you are to change the input shaft, it's doesn't really matter. Also, there are 2 different output types, which complicates things slightly - so it might be necessary to change the output flange as well as shortening the length of the prop.
The easiest way, of course, it to get an od box and prop from the correct type - i.e. non arrows, and make sure everything matches up.
