Mines a bit noisey up the front end even though i have put a new tensioner and a new timing chain.I'm wounering whether i could use a different oil,i have always put 25/50 in both engine and gearbox.

If the engine is still excessively noisy up front (remember, they aren't that quiet at the best of the times!), did you check the condition of the sprockets when you fitted the new timing chain? When I ran a 1725 I always used a 20w/50. However, I definately wouldnt use a fully synthetic oil as these are designed for modern engines with closer tolerances than the old Rootes' motors and tend to run 'thinner' than mineral or semi synthetic oils - remember, the viscosity rating illustrates the oil's 'propensity to flow' which is not the same as it's 'thickness'.
