hillman minx rear hub removal problem

Post by cliff1959 » Sat Jun 01, 2013 9:11 pm

I'm trying to remove the rear hubs on my Super Minx to change the rear oil seals, one side went ok but the other not.
My engineer friend has had 30tons of pressure and heat on it without luck, does anyone know of any 'tricks of the trade' to get the hub off?

I obtained a second hand Rootes half shaft and hub hoping it would be better and just do a straight swap but the bearing is just to big to fit into the axle casing, the hub, of course, refuses to budge on this one too.

Any ideas welcome.

I had the same problem on an Alpine hub, the taper on the half shaft is quite small. I eventually got the hub off using a bearing extracter whilst pouring hot water over the hub boss - trying to keep the halfshaft as cool as possible.
