The bolts on the original rear door were rounded and impossible to undo, so i had to grind off the door skin, and grind the threads from the inside. NIGHTMARE!!

The front door came off a little easier but the new ones were a pig to line up

The rear door is as good as its going to get. The front is spot on.

I tried a drop of Ford laquer red on the top of the rear door as it looked a nice colour on the swatch. Its horrible when its sprayed on though. Even the small bit i compounded and polished under the handle isnt particularly pleasant so ill be looking for other colours to try until i find the one i like. I cant get the original colour unless i have it mixed specially but the cost is astronomical considering the cost of a "normal" colour. Ill be spraying the whole car around mid may as long as i can get an attractive colour very similar to whats on it already. That way i can leave the paintwork under the bonnet as it is. Door shuts etc are no problem but under bonnet is a pain in the bum so im leaving it be.

Heres a couple of pics to show how its going.

Thats a good trick!! Unfortunately i dont have my own welder, and my friend who's welder i borrow was at work when i needed it so i had to cut the door. The bottom of it was completely rotted out so i didnt really mind.
Dou you have a tip for replacing the trim around the rear window/fin tops without damaging it? Im doing some small repairs and the trim was on there very tightly. Im worried i might damage it when i tap it back on.

I always paste the inside of trim with plenty of waxoil before fitting, helps it slide on and covers the area where water gathers,A 6 inch bit of soft wood on the trim would protect it from mallet blows, mine was tight too,
The colour scheme looks great i am just about to repaint my girlfriends '59 Minx similar colours but with the white on top,but i prefer yours !!!

Cheers

The bottom is in primer at the moment but i have an ivory/creamy type colour to put on the bottom. Strange thing is i like the grey!! Most people who see it tell me to leave it as is.
Its a very solid old thing, shows just 36,000 miles but wether or not its genuine i have no idea. The engine is beautiful though. Plenty of power and pulls from no revs at all. It was an auto but has been converted to manual by the previous owner. The overdrive still needs wiring in.
Glad to see this forum is getting a little busier

Its nice to pop in daily and find new posts.

Thats whats left of an old style alarm system which was armed/disabled with a key. Thats where the key was located. It wasnt wired up when i bought the car so i took it all out.
Polo

like it.
I want the OD wired up but i dont have a relay as yet. Ive got to get back in touch with rayrees about one. (I think ill do that tonight while its fresh in my mind) It will make the world of difference to my driving pleasure. At the moment i always take the back roads wherever i go, but with the OD sorted i can go the quick route if i need to get a move on. MPG should improve too.
