Crankshaft Pulley

Post by nzchevy » Sun Feb 02, 2014 7:09 pm

I have just had the engine from my MKII convertible rebuilt but the crankshaft pulley keyway is worn excessively and the one of the 'jaws' for the starter handle to engage is broken. It's a 1600cc automatic, does any body have one available?

Thanks

Unless you have a show car that you want to keep all original or a love of using the starter handle, I would cut or grind the "jaws" off of the crank pulley bolt so you can use an ordinary torque wrench to tighten the bolt.
It is very common for the pulley keyway to be worn out from the crank bolt not being tight enough. And it is hard to tighten correctly with the "jaws" in the way.

There is another recent thread on this forum about buying a new vibration dampener pulley you might want to look at too.
