Hello guys, my 1st topic and typing with one finger is time consuming. I'm the proud owner of a 1965 Mk1 Sceptre, purchased November 2013 from Mr George Pellow of Redruth, Cornwall. Thank you Mr Pellow, she's beautiful.
My problem is the availability of carburettors, The engine is the 1592cc, and has been fitted with a Weber carb 32DIF5 which I've found is more suitable for a 2litre Cortina. Does anyone know of a more suitable carb? Also I've been advised to change the throttle linkage arrangement from the pedal to a cable for smoother operation. I'm re-learning the little knowledge I had of working on cars so any pointers would be much appreciated. Thanks, Matthew.

Re: Carbs
I think I know that car, as I used to go to University in Falmouth many years ago, and knew every Mk1 & Mk2 in the area.
Have you got a photo?
I'm not 100% on which carb is best for your vehicle but the one you have obviously works, so it probably just needs re-jetting.
Which may be cheaper than buying a different one. Take it to a carb specialist, they'll sort you out.
Other than that I've found a suitable one for your car.
You may want to contact the seller, and see if it's still for sale, as they had zero bids at the end of January 2014.

I think the original one was this Solex twin choke, but it's been a while since I had my MK1

Re: Carbs
Since the Weber came with the car and was installed by someone else it is possible that it may not be properly jetted for you 1600cc engine.
With some simple rejetting, this should be a very workable carb.
It might be worth trying before going out and spending on a new carb.

Dana

Re: Carbs
Thanks for your input guys, I've been told there is another Weber carb with the correct flange fitting for a 1600cc which I'll look at though the control linkages are on the engine side. Has anyone converted their throttle control rods to cable?
P.S djnippa, I'll attempt-HA! to post a photo. Cheers, Matthew
