Mark 3 Tachometer

Post by turbinecol » Mon Feb 10, 2014 3:46 pm

Does anyone have any experience of removing and replacing the tacho, without disturbing the dashboard itself? Is it possible?

Thanks

quite straight forwards you can reach up behind the dash and realease the retainers pull the tacho out and then disconect everything . carefully .
Easy for me to say with skinny arms and fingers !!

Is that a later Mk3?

Mine is a '71 car, and the gauge is screwed in. I imagine getting the screws out will be do-able, getting the upper one back could be tricky without a special tool to hold it though...going to have a look when I can get the car out of the garage for proper access

Tacho swings over to full scale when the ignition key is moved to position 2 - swings back to normal when the car is running. Something potentially wrong with it .

Ok, very helpful, thanks.

On mine, there doesn't appear to be one single wiring connector block, but 3 or 4 individual connections onto the instrument. Also, the wire induction loop is internal to the unit. But I will have a better look if/when it stops raining.

(For reference, my unit is a Smith's RVI/2432/00)

OK, I have a replacement in hand. It looks different to the diagram above. I will try and post some pictures.

The bezel can be removed fairly easily to clean the glass, it has to be rotated slightly until the fixing lugs line up with the slots. Used some surface cleaning spray as a light cleaning solution on the gauge face.
