REV COUNTER GOING WILD

Post by djnippa » Sat Jul 05, 2014 2:10 pm

This is one for the TECHNICAL guys.
I've just had my standard 1725 engine converted to a Holbay spec (120bhp) with twin weber carbs, flat-top pistons, Holbay head, fast-road cam, lightened fly wheel and fully balanced.
Unfortunately it's still in the garage, as there is another problem with the reconditioned gearbox (by www.lastransmissions.com) now it won't switch into overdrive!!!

My question is while on the test-drive the mechanic said he noticed that the rev-counter seemed to be going off the scale, and he didn't think it was revving that high.
Does anyone know why this could be happening?
It was working fine before I had the conversion.

Did you replace the ignition system with electronic ignition at the same time?
Not all rev counters are compatible with all ignition systems.

Just a thought.

It already had electronic ignition fitted.
The mechanic thinks it's because of the lightened flywheel, and fast-road cam, causing it to shoot up so fast that it actually pushes the hand further than it actually does.

I've not actually seen it myself, as they still have the car.
I'm currently in a dispute with them now over the £450 charges incurred through problems with the reconditioned gearbox.
It's a freaking joke !!
