advice please - seem down on power

Post by vqdave » Sun May 06, 2007 12:01 pm

Hi all, got the golden arrow running lovely and smooth now, idles lovely and runs well, but if i get up to 3rd and then 4th gears to get up to speed the old girl feels well down on power. She used to have much more beans than she does at the moment.

Any ideas as to why this might be and how to sort it??

Many thanks in advance

Dave

Is the carb adjustment ok?
Any restriction in the fuel line? (blocked fuel filter?)
Spark plugs/leads breaking down under load?
What did cured ham actually have?

Carbs are OK as far as i know, i will have a read of my book to see how to adjust, any tips?
Fuel line is fine, i have a refurbed fuel pump (glass bowl mech type) and a new electric pump on the tank as a back up and new fuel lines.
Spark plugs and leads are new(ish) 8 months minimal milage, but may get a new set of plugs to be sure.
I have just ordered a new condenser as well, as this is mentioned in my book as a possible reason.
Will re check the timing as well.

Just over a month now to Le Mans so must get this sorted, can't go doing 1000 miles in a weekend down on power.

I thought the timing was fine, but not too sure if i did it correctly. Will double check.
Valve clearances and coked up head, ooo both sound big jobs to me i will read up on what to do there

update to those that are interested.

Back up to full power now, i bought myself electronic ignition fitted it set the timing and bobs your mothers brother, the golden arrow is fighting fit again, i even overtook someone on sunday night!!

Not sure what great gains the elec ign will make, only limited driving thus far so no real updates, and as i guess the timing was the issue before its hard to make a like for like judgement.

Still takes a bit to get the old girl started from cold, but when there sweet as a nut, and when warm, she starts as soon as i turn the key.

Feeling more confident now about next months weekend trip to Le Man and back.
