Front crossmember / sub frame

Post by Mij The Minx » Fri Aug 14, 2015 1:03 pm

Hi Guys
I know that 99% of the MkI & MkII sceptre/vogue is just Super minx & vice versa. But does anyone know for sure if the front sub assembly is a straight swap ? It looks the same but I know that no guarantee.

Thanks

In the first year of the Super Minx 1961 (MkI) some of the earlier cars used the same cross member and other parts as the Sunbeam alpine. It had drum brakes and the ball joints were smaller. Some time during the first year they changed to a stronger cross member with the bigger ball joints and bigger sway bar as later years but maintained drum brakes in the front until the MKII.

I discovered this quite by accident when trying to swap parts between by driver and my parts car. Both original 1961 MkI with original parts. The parts car was a later serial number.

I'll leave it someone else to comment on the MKII and newer.
But from what I know MKII super minx and sceptre/vogue it should be the same.
Just stay away from the MKI Super Minx for parts and you should be good.

Regards,
Dana
