Just picked this up off a mate.

Its in pretty good nick overall and everythings there. Anyway it comes with a spare engine, and as my best mate works at an engine builders I might aswell build it to a better spec than standard.

I've been told there is a David Vizard article on how to modify the standard alloy head. Has anybody got a copy they could scan/I could borrow so I know where to cut?

Where can I get a performance camshaft? I want something fairly lumpy.

The plan is to port the head out to Vizard specs (at least as I have access to a flowbench so will get it as good as I can), fit a decent cam, lightened and balanced bottom end, a custom manifold and a set of bike carbs.

Cheers

Matt

I presume you know all about the Holbay lump? They are becoming difficult to get hold of without paying silly money. Other than that, I have seen the odd high performance camshaft on ebay and other bits and bobs, but you have to be careful with overtuning the 1725, they do not like high revving as the conrods tend to go pop. That is why the Holbay is a good start as it has the full package sorted, including clutch, intake and exhaust.

As for polishing ports, some believe that it isn't actually any good for performance, as it removes flow turbulence that helps scavenging. If Vizard did indeed do an article for this engine, I would be very interested to see it.

Yep looked into the holbay lump looks a lot of money for not a lot of gain. Think i'm just gonna rebuilt it to standard specs then put something else in it.

actually I think it is quite a useful gain, particularly within the limitations of the chassis, but I agree it is an expensive way of doing at. Enjoy...

For a lot less money I could stick a pinto in making a lot more power (not that I would lol had enough of pintos).

I keep eying up an alfa v6 in a local scrapyard lol.

Pintos are great fun, very tuneable, but boy are they heavy. Alfa sounds interesting - I guess twin cams are rare and expensive?
