HI john.
,,,,,,,,and welcome to the forum, if you click on this link there is one on fleabay at the moment, but it's in Braintree and collection only, (mostly they all are due to the weight) and you don't say where you are located, failing that you could try contacting Stealthstylz, he has an ad on this forum a bit lower down the board, click here as the 1725 engine will drop straight into your motor, all you should need to do is swap the engine mountings for your old ones as the engine was inclined in the Mk3 motors because of the lower bonnet line, (a 1725 engine from a Mk2 is a direct swap) other than that the only other thing you may have to fiddle with is the carb linkage connection if yours has the solex carb in at the moment, he may still have the gearbox as well if you're lucky as that's the same as well, hope this is of some help.

.....................cheers, Jack.

HI, UNDERSTAND YOU ARE IN NEED OF AN ENGINE AND GEARBOX FOR A '63 MK1 SCEPTRE. I HAVE BOTH. THE ENGINE HAD BEEN OUTSIDE COVERED UP FOR A YEAR, BUT HAS BEEN IN MY GARAGE FOR THE LAST YEAR. IT WOULD NEED WORK, IT MAY NOW BE SEIZED, BUT WAS FREE WHEN I PURCHASED IT. IT IS MAINLY COMPLETE, AND IS FROM AN EARLY CAR. THE GEARBOX IS ALSO FROM AN EARLY CAR, AND I HAD USED IT IN MY '65 SCEPTRE WHILE MY ORIGINAL ONE WAS REPAIRED A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO. IT WORKED PERFECTLY(OVERDRIVE INCLUDED), BUT AS YOU WILL BE AWARE, THE EARLY CARS HAD NO SYNCHRO ON 1ST GEAR, AND REVERSE WAS ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE TO THE LATER CARS, SO IT WASN'T THE CORRECT UNIT FOR MY CAR. SINCE REMOVAL, IT HAS BEEN STORED IN A PLASTIC BAG IN MY GARAGE, SO IT SHOULD BE OKAY. IN FACT IT WORKED BETTER THAN MY ORIGINAL ONE DOES NOW!

IF YOU ARE STILL INTERESTED PLEASE CONTACT 07974 698682(I AM IN HUDDERSFIELD, WEST YORKSHIRE).

CHEERS AND GOOD LUCK,

BRYAN ELLIS

Hi Bryan
I am sorry for taking so long to reply. Got caught up in so many other things and have just been back to the page now. Are the engine + Gearbox still available? How much are you asking for them?

Hello John,
I'd almost forgotten that I'd replied to your question, it was so long ago! I still have both items. I paid £150 for both engine and gearbox, but as I mentioned, the engine was stood outside for a good while, so will be siezed. It is more or less complete, but would certainly need a lot of work. I would guess that the gearbox is still okay, as it has been in a plastic bag in a dry garage. I would probably be happy with £85 for both, subject to you seeing them of course. If you're interested, let me know, or I could split them.
I'll be on holiday next week, but give me a ring.
Cheers,
Bryan.

Hi Bryan

OK sounds good. Is it possible to see if its seized or not? I think I will take it either way. Would you know where I would be able to get parts for it? Like pistons, rings or bearings for example.
I will call you soon to talk about other details. And thanks for your help.

Regards,
John

when you are logged into this board if you look UP you will see the dark blue header with the rootes logo in and underneath two lines of text in a pale blue background..

in the second line it says "user control panel (0 new messages) . view posts

when someone PM's you it means they ahve sent a message to you that only you can see almost like an email, then it will say above (1 new message), you can then click on this (1 new message) and it will take you to your personal forum inbox where all the PM messages end up

Hi John,
Yes, please ring me, and we can arrange for you to have a look. There are a number of Rootes vehicle parts suppliers. Probably the one with the most comprehensive stock is Alpine West Midland Spares, telephone 01527 401498, Sue is very helpful. Speedy Spares is another one on the South Coast 01273 417889. Both will send you a Catalogue if you ask them.
Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Bryan.
