boot light

Post by rootesmadnick » Wed Apr 23, 2008 8:39 pm

had nightmares trying to get the rear boot interior light to work....
spent two hours trying to work out just where the switch was....
finally traced the switch to the last place I would have looked.....
it was the actual bulb holder itself, how clever is that ! it works by tilt, never in a million years have I seen something so ingenious..

well anyways now I got a working light in me boot !!!!

the offending item

Yes well known problem this.I was at a show and asked a sceptre owner about my light not working. He opens his boot lid, gives it a wack on the right hand side, and bingo on comes the light.

I gave my a few wacks and it worked now and then!Is it called a mercury switch?

I heard somewhere that people would disconect them because they would stay on when the lid was shut. Thus draining the battery,i've got one in my Jowett Javelin,it has a clear front to light up the boot, and a red end so thet other cars can see it.Smart that, not bad for 1947.
