so I trial refitted the original carb which is a SOLEX Paias32b twin choke and found it was leaking like a sieve due to the float cover being distorted, a few phone calls later reveals its not something you can buy so its a fix it or bin it situation.
Cue trip to halfords and a dig in the attic for a piece of glass which is the flattest thing I think I have in the house..
so started with 800 grit paper on the glass with plenty of soap and cirlcing motions , ran out of 800 so went up to the other paper inthe kit which was 1200. After about 1/2 an hour (yes it was really badly distorted f you held it onthe glass you could see light through the edge) I did a trial markup to see how bad it was
Coloured the edge in with a permanent marker
then gave it a quick swirl on nearly dry wetndry
yep still a few low spots like between the ports and at the bottom of the carb so back on the 1200 for another few minutes
did another colour in and after a quick swirl it now looks like this
will refit it in a bitand see if im walking to work tomorrow lol
