Sceptre Mk1 - maybe for sale

Post by Blues70ht » Sat Jun 07, 2008 8:52 pm

Sceptre Mk1 1963 - Blue - I'm testing the water as I am very attached to this car, but it may be for sale if someone will save it! Owned since 1995. Taken off the road 9 years ago. Rear valances (inner and outer) and offside chassis leg (jacking point and rear spring shackle mounting) area cut out to repair rusty bits, but not progressed due to (a) children and work and (b) limited welding skills/funds... Now reluctantly considering sale - but note that due to the above it will need careful transfer to a trailer to take away.
Summary - when it was on the road, very reliable and great for everyday use with 1725 engine (original 1592 needing rebuild and original gearbox still with the car). Very presentable and with good trim and new carpets. Stainless exhaust. Comes with Alpine West Midlands repair panels for rear outer valance and rear wing bottoms. Will need welding, painting the repairs/all and general mechanical recommissioning.
A good point - I had the sills replaced properly and at great expense and waxoyled them, and they are still very good. In spite of the welding work that clearly needs doing the solid sills and completeness make it a good project. A picture appears on the site in the gallery - with my friend's car at Stamford Hall around 1998!
Some spare parts including (I think - buried in the garage somewhere) windscreen and rear window.
Contact me by posting here or by e-mail - iht@live.co.uk is best - if you are interested in the car.
Price? What's it worth? Needs welding and general love and attention but has potential to get back to being the fun, quick family sports saloon it was before. As a good basis must be worth £500?
I'm in Syston, outside Leicester, in case location is a factor
