overdrive in but not
1964 Sceptre, Just fitted replacement gearbox, with the reverse located over and back towards driver, I'm sure the old one was over to the passenger, Any way Overdrive will engage on all gears, but is reluctant to disengage, and when it does is a bit savage, Also i was sure that overdrive should only engage on 3rd/4th. I did notice that it seems that you can go for 4th, and would easily try to go into reverse. any advice most welcome

Re: overdrive in but not
Reverse is always towards the driver in a right hand drive car.
Overdrive engaging on all gears either means that you don't have the inhibitor switch correctly wired in - or it is faulty. They are simple and cheap to replace and are available from speedy spares.
Overdrives not disengaging, or doing so reluctantly - sounds like the cone clutch material is worn. It needs a rebuild. If you don't want to do it yourself....(I did one, it's not too difficult).
