Hi
My Solex has an issue that cannot be repaired, and I need a replacement for it. It's a twin choke carb as fitted to Sceptres and Alpines. Anyone got a used one going spare?
I also need the grommet that holds the end of the throttle shaft in the bracket that is bolted to the bulkhead. Anyone breaking a sceptre that could yield me this part?
Cheers
A

I have that carb on my current vehicle, which is in the garage having a fast-road conversion and Twin Webers fitted.
So it'll be available in 2-3 weeks time.
I'll send you a message once I get it back.

Re: Solex 32 PAIA wanted
Thanks for the replies. I have managed to source another one and built a good carb out of the two of them. The main problem was the secondary diaphragm on both carbs that was torn. In the end got a rebuild kit from Carburettor Hospital. Nice bloke Eric.

Looks brand new now it has been bead blasted and through my ultrasonic cleaner. Accelerator pump emulsion tube was blocked, as was one of the main jets, and of course the diaphragm was torn. No wonder the car was taken off the road.

Re: Solex 32 PAIA wanted
Good outcome for you. Have heard those people are v. good. Am having trouble myself with same on my '66 Sceptre auto. Will not idle/tickover. Have checked all electrics.Do you folks know how many bolts hold down the top of the carb to the rest of it - 4 ? I've removed these but it still won't budge, stuck fast. Is there a hidden bolt or screw somewhere or maybe just the gasket welded tight with age?
Any advice greatly appreciated

I had the same issue. You need to remove the big brass emulsion tube (Accelerator pump and ball valve assembly in the WSM) that is in between the two chokes. Once you have removed that, the top part will come off.
However, if it will not idle, but runs ok apart from that, your idle jet is probably blocked. This should be able to be resolved without splitting the carb. On the engine side of the carb, take out the main jet holder and the pilot jet further up, and blow them through. These are the jets that feed the idle circuit.
I can send you a pdf from the Rootes workshop manual for the carb, if it helps. Email me hfb289g@gmail.com
