Non idling
Hi all we have a mk2 auto and at the moment she won't idle unless the choke is pulled out nearly full and she dies after a short while because she is too rich , she revs fine and drives along fine but as soon as you take your foot off the throttle she dies . At the moment I'm thinking carb problem and as its the original solex is it worth getting a new carb or messing with the jets on this one ?

Its probably just a blocked idle jet,its pretty straight forward to unscrew the jets and blow them through,if you haven't got a compressor, use a footpump with a pointy air bed type nozel on it and a good stamp on the pump usually does the trick.I don't want to be cheaky but have you checked the idle adjustment screw...
I haven't had these carbs on my car ,i had twin dcoe webers before i used fuel injection on my Sceptre and the idle jets often got blocked up.
Good Luck

TBH your prob sounds different to mine as mine died as i pulled away, she idled fine, but just in case have you checked your fuel pump? Is it pumping enough petrol though? I ended up geting a refurb kit from speedies and doing that and it worked fine.
As i say your prob sounds the oppo to mine but thought it worth a mention.
I reckon it sounds like a blocked jet as said before, give teh whole thing a good clean.
