sceptre mk1 overdrive

Hello,can anyone please advise me as to what could be wrong with my sceptre's overdrive .I was driving in fourth gear with overdrive engaged and it slipped out ,i thought i may have knocked the stalk so i put it back into overdrive and it stayed in for about a minute then came back out .Now it wont go in at all and the overdrive light on the dashboard won't even light up.I have done some checks with a multi meter on the switch wires for continuity when triggered and that seems to be working? any ideas of what it could be or likely causes,i dont know if its fused at all ?
