Humber Sceptre or a Sunbeam Rapier

Post by palfaiate » Tue Nov 20, 2007 4:37 am

Hi, I have a car, but i don't know if it's a Humber Sceptre or a Sunbeam Rapier, because the logos in the doors, central grate and register documents say Sunbeam Rapier. I'm in Portugal, email palfai@gmail.com
Thanks Paulo

If it has 4 doors, then chances are that it is a Sceptre. The Rapier was a 2 door pillarless coupe like the one below, which was our old one that we had before we got our Super Snipe.

Hope that's of some help to you.

Giggles is right, 2 doors = Rapier, 4 doors = Sceptre at least in the UK. Rootes did sometimes badge stuff differently for overseas markets - Hillman Minxes were badged as Sunbeams in the US and Singer Vogues were Humbers in Australia.

Of course, the Humber Sceptre Mk1 was originally intended to be the 'new' Sunbeam Rapier (until a fairly late decision to continue the old Audax based cars alongside the Vogue/Super Minx series).
