I really love my mk2 but there is one thing that I never understood...
the dash is fantastic but why did they paint the three alloy components in crinkle black when being polished would look so much better??
the parts I mean obviously are the dished bit behind the passenger grab handle, centre console under the 4 dials, and the pod with speedo -tacho in..
has anyone else ever considered having these highly polished instead?

Think the most likely reason on the pod is it would be highly reflective in bright sunlight and probably dazzle you. The other bits I don't know. What I do know is that when the MK1 came out ,which has the same dash, as I'm sure you know! it was never intended to be a Humber but a Sunbeam Rapier, however Rootes were looking to fill a gap in the Humber market as they had no small cars to offer young excutive family types all the other Humbers were large cars with leather seats and polished wood interiors which suited slightly more well heeled types, if you see what I mean! no money in Rootes coffers to develop an entirely new Humber, but hey, wait a minute! we've got this new Rapier on the drawing board! Why not re-badge it as a Humber and call it Sceptre and market as a " Sports Saloon!" that ought to hit the spot! And so that's why this particular Humber doesn't have the polished wood dash and leather seats the others have.
