Alpine overdrive units
I currently have an Alpine with a 4 speed gearbox, would like to have overdrive, the only one I have been able to track down is a Hunter gearbox and overdrive, I assume the ratios will be different - anybody had any experience of these -many thanks, Nick

Re: Alpine overdrive units
hi mate, you will find other differences trying to use a hunter box as well, the hunter box is designed to run on an engine with a 10 degree lean so the bell housing is different and will tilt the box if you use it on the alpine (this might stop o/d working properly) the hunter bellhousing is a lot longer as well..
the input shaft on a hunter box has a thin splined shaft wheras the alpine will have the courser splines,
my advice would be to try and find either a superminx or sceptre mk1-2 od box or even a vogue 1-4 box
you will also need some form of inhibitor circuit to prevent engagement in 1st 2nd or reverse, so make sure you get the gear shifter as it has the switches fitted for this.
hope this helps

Nick, thanks for the info on the Hunter box - I have not gone ahead with it, but have now found a Sceptre with a hedge growing out of it in a farmers yard, it has overdrive so I'm off to do some recovery work!

Re: Alpine overdrive units
i love having overdrive , i got it on both my motors and it makes driving so much easier being able to have a clutchless 4-41/2 for round town and hilly roads

The head unit is not being changed. The alpine is a small amp designed to pair with the factory stereo.

I think you may not be sure what kind of overdrive is being spoken about or that the Alpine is a car not the make of stereo!
