Can anyone help?.I need a toughened front windscreen for my 71 Sceptre .The story is...i bought the car 2 months ago and, naturally,it lets in water here, there and everywhere so i got a windscreen seal from a fella in Scotland who had purchased it from Speedy Spares.Got the pros in who, after looking told me that the screen had not been installed properly. They took my screen out and found that, with the new seal fitted the screen would not go back in i.e.would not sit in the bottom corners of the window frame.I looked through the service history to find that the screen had been replaced in 2005 with a laminated one.I have been told that the screen seal i bought was reproduced to fit, ideally,a toughened windscreen hence my request for help!
Hope that all made sense cos it took me ages to type!To contact me try my email address which is peterhawkbowen@hotmail.com or my tel. 01305833875
I look forward to hearing from anybody!!.

Yes, the laminated screens are thicker, which isn't very clever. Also, they seem to be very keen to de-laminate. Good luck fitting the one out of the Hunter, if it is a zebra-zoned toughened it should be spot on.

Hi turbinecol,
Thanks for your reply.Yes,the Hunter toughened screen went in very easily.I contacted Pilkingtons prior to the job being done. They put me in touch with their factory manager in Kent who told me that the toughened screen was more bulbous on the corners and,as you stated, was slightly thinner.More rounded corners was what was needed. He even remembered having to retool their machinery to make the laminated screen that had been fitted, for a previous owner, in 2005!!!.
Regards.Pete.

Great, some good news then. Keep your eyes on the corner of the windscreen, sometimes after fitment they can leak a bit at the ends - if you need to seal them use some 3M windscreen sealer - it isn't your average silicon sealant and stays flexible. Bit of a messy compound but can be cleaned up with solvent/spirit.
Anyone tooling up a pattern windscreen that doesn't fit straight off is just wasting all our time, and theirs. Frustrating.
