faulty points

Post by mahogany101 » Thu Mar 18, 2010 9:35 pm

just thought i would share this with you guys and galls. my brother and i changed the points, condenser, rotar arm, distributor cap and ht leads on my sceptre mk1 last sunday. ok job done lets try it. fired up like a gudden as they say. went for a spin of about 6 miles, it had never run better i was grinning from ear to ear, until the home straight. yes all of a sudden we stopped.it would start but would not rev and kept cutting out, we checked the points and they were fine, couldnt think of anything else so we called for help luckily it was mothers day and all the boys were there. 5 of us in all, it was like pushing a dead elephant.none of us could swear because we couldnt breathe. i put her to bed and went home. i rung my main man who said it wouldnt be much, he was right my new points were sticking and ceased to open. of course your all sat there saying yeh i knew that, but i didnt. anyway i am grinning again from ear to ear and cant wait for sunday. he said you want to take them points back, but brighton is a bit far dont you think.

speak to you soon howard.

had the same thing... car wouldnt start in the morning.. was a nightmare..

one day I looked in the dizzy and the points were wide open, so tok em off put a drill through that bit the pin goes through
and they were fine, I think the galvanising on the points was a bit too thick inside that part and once i had cleaned some out they were fine
I fix things!!
