gearbox trouble

Post by mahogany101 » Sun Nov 06, 2011 5:10 pm

greetings
been out for a spin in my sceptre mk1 1963 today, what a beautiful day. set off and the gears nice and smooth, as the journey went on it became really hard to engage any gear. this has been coming on gradually over the last few months but today was really bad. managed to get home and put in the garage, engine off, and the gears would change really nice without pressing the clutch down. not mechanically minded would love some help with this.
cheers H.

The first thing I would do would be to drain the gearbox and fill with fresh oil. The drain plug, surprise surprise, is on the bottom (!) the filler plug on the side accessed from inside the car by lifting the carpet on the transmission tunnel and removing the four screws that hold the access panel in place.

Hi

I've always used Castrol EP90 Gear Oil - think you'll find that Halfords stock it. :)
