Overdrive relay and wiring

Post by big_steve » Sun Feb 25, 2007 9:19 pm

My 67 mk2 sceptre has been converted from automatic to manual overdrive. The o/d now needs wiring up but i dont have a relay or any of the wiring. Can anyone help? It would improve my fuel consumption no end....
Also, is there a difference between the auto and manual speedometers? Ive just replaced a broken speedo cable and its reading 70+ mph at 40.
Thanks.

Don't know if this helps you at all but there is an overdrive switch on ebay at the moment, item number - 150096642636

Thanks for that :D
The relay is proving hard to find though. I wonder if one from another car will work? I cant handle this slow cruising much longer

I'v got a speedo that does the same thing (reads about 40+ On what it should be,I have tired different cables, and clocks.I think its at the gearbox end that giving the problem.I thought i remember someone saying the clocks were different on autos and manual box cars.

Theres a number at the bottom of the clock,on the black face.I had spares from a bloke who broke up a automatic,i think thats when i discovered the different numbers. And what about the diff, are they the same on both types of cars. :?:

Good point regarding the diff. Never thought of that!!
I didnt change from auto to manual, the previous owner did that, but he didnt say if he changed the axle/diff etc.
Robbo, does your rev counter seem to read ok? Mine seems to read a little high. When i set the idle speed to 800rpm on the tacho the engine is literally only just managing to keep running. When i set it by ear it sounds spot on, but the tach reads 12 - 1500rpm. Doesnt bother me, just wondered if you have the same problems.
